Mercedes-Benz USA issued a recall for a few model 2020 AMG GT vehicles which are suspected to have faulty emergency call system communication modules.
The fault is caused by the eCall module missing the wiring harness ground line, meaning that the system will be unable to relay the accurate location of the vehicle.
The eCall fault is significant in that the location of the vehicle might not be known quickly in case of an emergency.
When the fault was discovered, Mercedes reached out to the supplier. The supplier then conducted an investigation and found that the installation of the ground line was not done properly at the production and test stages. They then did an analysis of the logistics documents and were able to find an idea of which vehicles may have been affected.
The NHTSA reported that approximately 149 vehicles were affected by the fault.
Authorized dealers will repair the wiring harnesses of the communication modules as from June 20, 2020 when the recall starts.
